Well it's been a busy month! Gareth has been hard at work preparing the base for the stables. As with all these things there have been a few setbacks. First an oil pipe failed on the digger so Gareth drove to Boston, bought a new one, fitted it and got back to work only for a different pipe to go. In response to this he replaced all the pipes managed a full days work and then the oil pump blew up! We managed to source a new one but it took a week to arrive and without a digger not much could be done. The new pump arrived and was duly fitted, we managed another couple of days great progress was being made then the turbo blew on the tractor. This took another week to fix and left us unable to move the hard core around. Hopefully that is our three things out of the way and nothing else will break! These delays unfortunately meant that harvest time was upon us. A week on and the harvest is nearly complete it has been much better than last year and we have a lovely stack of straw ready for the winter.
Despite the delays we have managed to get all of the hard core down for the stables base and it has now been rolled and is ready for concreting. Gareth hopes that by the end of the week most of the concrete will be down, we are praying that the weather is kind to us. In addition to this the site for the arena has been levelled and all of the drainage channels have been dug. Its so exciting to see things happening, the site is changing every day.
Millie and I have mainly been hacking this month as the ground has been so hard. We are at Frickley Park for the BE90 on Saturday so are hoping for some rain before then. We've not been to Frickley before but having seen some course photos from last year it looks like a lovely galloping course with lots of hedges which should really suit us. We are going to Sisson's on Wednesday night for some last minute show jumping practice as we've not jumped for a month due to the ground. I can't wait for our lovely new arena to be ready it will make life so much easier. I'll report on how we get on next month. Keep an eye on our face book this month as I'll keep uploading photos of the building work.
